Pain

As a parent it is not OK for you to tell me that your child has a high pain threshold and that's why you did not give them analgesia for their fractured ankle/wrist. It is equally not OK to refuse my offer of analgesia for said child while under my care because they are "tough". This is bordering on child abuse.

As an adult you should not tell me in triage that you have (insert major surgical emergency here) that you have severe pain while a) smiling and joking with me, b) have normal vital signs and c) look and sound in normal health. Oh, and asking me to carry your bag that you have carried from the main door of the hospital because "you just can't manage" is just pathetic.

I have seen this too, in a mother who refused to allow analgesia for her post circumcision son.

I see mothers who are not willing to protect their children against lethal diseases because they have read it all up on the internet.

Idiots.

I've introduced my own pain scale, with 10 being like eaten alive by a shark. It's amazing how many people still score a 9...

You have opened a complete new world to me. Good luck, you sound as if you all need it!

I absolutely agree, especially about someone who walks in normally and then puts on the show! I also agree with Jobbing Doctor's comment on the vaccine issues.

Can I just say that I see this a lot with overweight patients. They can't move themselves around their beds or walk to the x ray machine but if you put a vending machine 30 feet away boy they can find the energy. Obnoxious! Don't even start me on those sucky parents. Let's fracture their wrist!

I would always be freaking out much more than my kids Im surprised they didnt give me anesthetic...but I would never tell anyone my kid has a high threshold for pain no matter if its a small cut or their arm is broken...for how do I know what my child really feels? ugh some parents should have their arm broken then be told sorry were outta anesthetics today so your gonna have to buck it up and take it like a man (as the saying goes) then see how they can handle it

Ah, maybe the patient thinks he/she is a millionaire and you are his/her bodyguard, eh. Talking about abuse and more. :(

Take care,

Being a nurse i have seen this kind of incidents so many times met with so many different types of people in a day in the Hospitals. Or you can say that i am used to of it.
